Basic Wig Maintenance: A Simple Routine for Longevity
BASIC WIG MAINTENANCE: A SIMPLE ROUTINE FOR LONGEVITY
Wig maintenance isn't complicated. A simple routine keeps your wig looking fresh and lasting longer.
PART ONE: DAILY CARE (TAKES 2 MINUTES)
1. Brush Gently
Use a wide-tooth comb or paddle brush. Start from the ends and work upward. Don't jerk or pull.
2. Store Properly
Store on a wig head. This maintains shape and prevents tangling.
3. Remove Nightly (Optional but Recommended)
Removing the wig at night lets your scalp and the hair rest. This extends lifespan.
PART TWO: WEEKLY CARE (TAKES 30 MINUTES)
1. Wash with Sulfate-Free Shampoo
Use cool water. Gentle shampoo only. Don't scrub or rub.
2. Condition
Apply conditioner, especially to the ends. Let sit 10-15 minutes.
3. Rinse Thoroughly
Rinse with cool water until completely clean.
4. Air Dry
Air dry on a wig head. Don't use heat to dry.
PART THREE: MONTHLY CARE (TAKES 1 HOUR)
1. Deep Conditioning Treatment
Use a deep conditioning mask. Leave on 30-60 minutes. This restores moisture and vibrancy.
2. Clarifying Wash (Optional)
Every other month, use a clarifying shampoo to remove product buildup.
PART FOUR: RED FLAGS TO ADDRESS IMMEDIATELY
- Excessive shedding (20+ hairs) - Bald spots developing - Persistent tangling despite deep conditioning - Smell or visible mold - Extreme dryness that won't improve
BOTTOM LINE
Wig maintenance is simple: gentle handling, weekly washing, regular deep conditioning. That's it. This routine keeps your wig looking fresh for years.
