The BLONC Glossary: I-Tip and Bead Extension Terms
Just like with K-tips, terminology confusion is common in the I-tip world. After 21+ years behind the chair, here's a straightforward glossary of the terms that matter most.
PART ONE: Bonding Terms
Cold fusion: any bonding method that doesn't use heat, including I-tips, which use a mechanically clamped bead. Bead weight: the size/weight of the bead used to clamp hair, commonly 0.5g, 0.7g, or 0.8g — lighter means smaller and more discreet. Micro-link: a broader term for bead-and-clamp techniques, sometimes used interchangeably with I-tip.
PART TWO: Hair Quality Terms
Raw hair: unprocessed human hair collected directly from a single donor, cuticle fully intact. Single donor: hair sourced from one person's ponytail or braid in a single collection, keeping texture and cuticle direction consistent. Remy hair: hair with cuticle aligned in one direction — always confirm whether "Remy" means truly raw or just cuticle-aligned processed hair.
"I always tell clients: don't just accept a label, ask what it means. Understanding these terms makes you a sharper, more informed buyer."
PART THREE: Why Terminology Protects You
Knowing these terms lets you ask better questions before buying and spot vague language that might be hiding lower hair quality. At BLONC, we're always transparent about exactly what you're getting.
