The BLONC Glossary: K-Tip and Raw Hair Terms Explained
After 21+ years behind the chair, I've noticed how much confusion comes simply from unclear terminology in the extension industry. Here's a straightforward glossary of the terms that matter most when shopping for raw hair K-tips.
PART ONE: Hair Quality Terms
Raw hair: unprocessed human hair collected directly from a single donor, cuticle fully intact and aligned in one direction. Virgin hair: hair that hasn't been chemically treated but may come from multiple donors, making it good quality but generally less consistent than raw. Remy hair: hair with the cuticle aligned in one direction, which can technically apply to both raw and some processed hair — always ask whether "Remy" means truly raw or just cuticle-aligned processed hair.
PART TWO: Drawing and Bond Terms
Single drawn: strands of varying lengths bundled together, giving a naturally tapered end. Double drawn: shorter strands removed so the bundle maintains thickness throughout, giving a fuller, blunt-end look. Keratin bond (K-tip): a pre-formed keratin nugget fused to natural hair using heat, which can be reheated for removal and re-tipping.
"I always tell clients: don't just accept a label, ask what it means. 'Remy' and 'natural' get used so loosely across this industry that the words alone don't tell you much anymore."
PART THREE: Why Terminology Protects You as a Buyer
Understanding these terms lets you ask sharper questions before buying and spot when a seller is using vague language to avoid disclosing lower hair quality. At BLONC, we're always transparent about exactly what you're getting — raw, single-donor, Remy-aligned Indian hair, honestly labeled.
THE BOTTOM LINE
