Common Myths About I-Tip Extensions, Debunked
I-tip extensions carry a few myths that just won't go away, and after 21+ years behind the chair, I like setting the record straight for clients doing their research.
PART ONE: "The Beads Will Set Off Metal Detectors"
False. I-tip beads are far too small to trigger airport security, and they're an entirely normal, common sight to TSA staff. This is one of the most common but least founded worries clients bring up.
PART TWO: "I-Tips Damage Hair More Than K-Tips"
Also false, and often the opposite is true. Because I-tips involve zero heat, some clients find them gentler on hair overall, particularly heat-sensitive or previously damaged hair. Neither method is inherently more damaging when applied and cared for correctly.
"Most extension myths come from one bad experience somewhere, told and retold until it becomes 'common knowledge.' The truth is almost always about technique and hair quality, not the method itself."
PART THREE: "You Can't Reuse I-Tip Hair"
False. Raw I-tip hair in good condition can absolutely be reinstalled into fresh beads for future use, especially since there's no heat exposure history to degrade it over time.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Most I-tip myths don't hold up to scrutiny — the real story is about hair quality and technique, not the bonding method itself. We carry raw I-tip hair from 14 to 32 inches in a range of natural and blonde shades.
