Hair grades (10A, 12A, 14A) are a classification system that indicates quality, thickness, and consistency. But most people don't understand what these numbers actually mean.

PART ONE: WHAT THE GRADES MEAN

The Scale

Hair grades go from 6A (lowest) to 14A (highest). Most quality hair sold is in the 8A-14A range.

What The Letter "A" Means

The "A" indicates that the hair meets certain quality standards. Without the "A," the hair is below those standards.

What The Number Means

The higher the number, the higher the quality. Higher grades have:

  • More consistent texture throughout
  • Better durability
  • Longer lifespan
  • More natural appearance
  • Better response to styling and products

8A Hair

Quality: Good

Lifespan: 6-12 months

14A Hair

Price: Premium Plus

Best For: Serious wig wearers, professional use, maximum quality

PART THREE: HOW TO SPOT THE DIFFERENCE

Visual: Hold the hair up to light. Higher grades will be more consistent and uniform. Lower grades will have visible texture variation and inconsistency.

Touch: Run your fingers through. Higher grades feel smoother and more uniform. Lower grades feel slightly rough or inconsistent.

Shine: Higher grades reflect light more evenly, creating natural shine. Lower grades might have dull spots.

BOTTOM LINE

Higher grades = longer lifespan and better quality. The grade is a solid indicator of value. 12A is my recommendation for the balance of quality and price.
