How Many Bundles of I-Tip Hair Do You Actually Need

"How much hair do I actually need?" is one of the first questions every I-tip client asks, and after 21+ years behind the chair, here's how I help clients land on the right amount for their goals.

PART ONE: The Variables That Matter

Hair amount needed depends on your natural density, the length you're adding, your chosen bead weight, and whether you want subtle volume or a dramatic transformation. A client with thick natural hair wanting a length boost needs far less than a client with fine hair wanting both length and volume.

PART TWO: A General Starting Point

For most full-head I-tip installs aiming for natural-looking volume, clients typically need somewhere around 100-150 grams of hair, adjusted based on chosen bead weight — heavier beads (0.7g-0.8g) can hold slightly more hair per bead, potentially requiring fewer total beads for the same fullness.

"I always tell clients it's easier to add a few more beads at a follow-up than to have bought hair you'll never use. Start with a realistic base amount tied to your bead weight choice."

PART THREE: Why Raw Hair Changes the Math

Raw hair's natural movement and realistic weight mean you often need less of it to achieve a believable result compared to heavier, less natural-behaving processed alternatives.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Work with your stylist to estimate hair amount based on your actual density, bead weight, and goals — not a generic number online. We carry raw I-tip hair from 14 to 32 inches in a range of natural and blonde shades.
