Safe I-Tip extension removal process BLONC raw hair

How to Remove I-Tip Extensions Safely

Because I-tips use a clamped bead instead of a melted keratin bond, removal is a completely different process than K-tip removal — and after 21+ years behind the chair, I want clients to understand exactly what that process should look like.

PART ONE: How I-Tip Removal Works

Special pliers are used to gently reopen the bead that was clamped shut during installation, releasing the natural hair and extension strand without any chemical remover or heat needed. Once the bead is open, the strand simply slides free.

PART TWO: What Bad Removal Looks Like

Forcing a bead open with the wrong tool, or pulling the strand out without fully reopening the bead first, can pull and break natural hair strands caught inside. This is the I-tip equivalent of yanking out a K-tip bond without proper remover — avoidable damage caused by rushed technique, not the extension method itself.

"I-tip removal should be quiet and controlled. If a stylist is pulling or tugging rather than calmly reopening each bead with the right pliers, that's a sign to speak up."

PART THREE: Reusing I-Tip Hair After Removal

Raw I-tip hair, once removed, can often be reused in fresh beads for a future install, provided the hair is still in good condition — much like re-tipping preserves K-tip hair for reuse over time.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Proper I-tip removal means carefully reopening the bead, never pulling or forcing it — ask your stylist about their removal process before booking. We carry raw I-tip hair from 14 to 32 inches in a range of natural and blonde shades.
