I-Tips and Static: Why Some Clients Notice More Flyaways
Static and flyaways come up as a seasonal question from I-tip clients, particularly in dry winter months, and after 21+ years behind the chair, here's the honest explanation.
PART ONE: Why Static Happens
Static builds up more in dry air, and raw hair, behaving like real hair, responds to that dryness the same way your natural hair would — flyaways and mild static are a sign of real, unprocessed hair reacting normally to its environment, not a defect.
PART TWO: Managing Static Day to Day
A lightweight leave-in conditioner or anti-static hair serum applied to dry hair helps significantly, as does switching to a boar-bristle or other natural-fiber brush, which generates less static than synthetic bristles.
"I always tell clients that a little static in dry weather is proof they're wearing real, raw hair — not a sign something's wrong. A humidifier at home and the right leave-in handle it easily."
PART THREE: Seasonal Product Adjustments
Increasing leave-in conditioner use and reducing heat styling frequency during particularly dry months helps raw hair — both natural and extension — stay more manageable and less prone to static buildup.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Static and flyaways in dry weather are a normal response from real, raw hair — a good leave-in and the right brush handle it easily. We carry raw I-tip hair from 14 to 32 inches in a range of natural and blonde shades.
