I-Tips for Textured and Curly Hair: A Placement Guide
Curly-haired clients considering I-tips often ask the same question K-tip clients do: will the beads show, and will the extensions actually blend? After 21+ years behind the chair, here's how I approach textured and curly I-tip installs.
PART ONE: Curl Pattern Hides Beads Naturally
Curly and coily textures naturally camouflage beads better than straight hair does, since the curl pattern creates volume and movement around the bead rather than laying flat against it. This gives more flexibility in bead weight and placement than straight hair typically allows.
PART TWO: Matching Curl Pattern Precisely
We carry I-tip hair in Straight, Wavy, Curly, Kinky Curly, and Afro Curly textures specifically because an approximate curl match isn't good enough — the extension curl pattern needs to genuinely match your natural texture to blend convincingly through wash-and-go cycles.
"Curly clients get the best results when we measure and plan on stretched length, since curl shrinkage can make length and volume estimates look very different once everything settles into its natural pattern."
PART THREE: Why Raw Hair Holds Curl Pattern Consistently
Raw, unprocessed hair with an intact cuticle holds a defined curl pattern more reliably wash after wash than chemically altered extension hair, which can loosen or change texture with repeated washing.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Curly and textured hair pair beautifully with I-tips when curl pattern is genuinely matched and beads are placed with natural volume in mind. We carry raw I-tip hair from 14 to 32 inches across all five textures.
