I-Tips for Layered vs One-Length Haircuts
Whether a client has one-length hair or a heavily layered cut changes how I approach an I-tip install, and after 21+ years behind the chair, treating both the same is a recipe for an uneven result.
PART ONE: One-Length Hair
One-length hair is the more straightforward canvas — bead placement and extension length can be more uniform across the whole head since there's no varying layer length to account for.
PART TWO: Layered Hair
Layered hair requires section-by-section planning, adjusting bead placement and extension length to respect the existing layer structure rather than flattening it into a uniform length. Shorter layers need smaller, more carefully placed beads since there's less hair to disguise them.
"One-length clients get a more templated approach; layered clients need a custom plan for every section. Treating them the same way leads to visible inconsistency."
PART THREE: Why Raw Hair Adapts Well to Either
Raw hair's natural movement adapts convincingly to both one-length and layered styles, moving the way real hair does regardless of the underlying cut structure.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Know your haircut style going into your I-tip consultation — it changes the entire bead placement strategy. We carry raw I-tip hair from 14 to 32 inches in a range of natural and blonde shades.
