I-Tips and Skin Tone: Choosing a Flattering Shade
Just as with K-tips, shade conversations for I-tips should go beyond matching your natural hair color. After 21+ years behind the chair, I always bring skin tone into the discussion too, especially for clients considering a shade change.
PART ONE: Why Skin Tone Matters
The same blonde or brown shade can look flattering or washed out depending on your skin's warm or cool undertones. This is especially relevant with our Dark Blonde and Medium Blonde I-tip shades, which read differently against different undertones.
PART TWO: General Guidance by Undertone
Cooler undertones often pair well with ash-toned blondes and cooler browns, while warmer undertones tend to look more radiant with golden or warm-toned shades. This isn't a hard rule, but it's a useful starting point when a shade that looked great on someone else doesn't translate the same way for you.
"I've had clients bring in a shade photo that looked stunning on someone else and fell flat on them because of undertone, not hair quality. It's worth discussing before committing."
PART THREE: Why Raw Hair Gives You Flexibility
Raw hair's ability to take additional toning means your stylist can fine-tune a shade after install to better suit your skin tone, more easily than with already-processed extension hair.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Don't choose an I-tip shade from a photo alone — talk to your stylist about how it will read against your skin tone. We carry raw I-tip hair from 14 to 32 inches in a range of natural and blonde shades.
