Installing a Wig on Different Hair Types

INSTALLING A WIG ON DIFFERENT HAIR TYPES

Different hair types require different installation approaches. Here's how to install on your specific hair type.

PART ONE: INSTALLATION FOR STRAIGHT HAIR

Preparation

1. Brush hair smooth and slick 2. Lay edges down with edge control 3. Use wig cap to smooth hair and provide base 4. Hair should be as flat as possible

Installation

Straight hair is slippery, so make sure your wig has a good grip system (combs and straps) or extra-strong glue hold.

PART TWO: INSTALLATION FOR CURLY HAIR

Preparation

1. DO NOT flatten curls 2. Section hair into 4-6 large braids or twists 3. Pin braids against scalp 4. Wear wig cap over braids 5. Hair creates cushion for wig grip

Installation

Braids provide grip points for comb teeth. Curly hair naturally grips better than straight.

PART THREE: INSTALLATION FOR COILY/KINKY HAIR

Preparation

1. Braid or twist hair into protective style 2. Create 6-8 braids if possible (more grip points) 3. Pin all braids 4. Wear wig cap 5. This is the most secure base

Installation

Coily hair provides maximum grip. Your wig will be very secure.

PART FOUR: INSTALLATION FOR THIN/SHORT HAIR

Preparation

1. Lay hair down as much as possible 2. Consider using a fuller wig cap or protective cap 3. Use extra-strong glue for secure hold 4. May need combs in addition to glue

Installation

Less hair means less grip. Ensure proper wig fit and secure fastening.

BOTTOM LINE

Adjust your installation method based on your natural hair type. Braids create security. Wig caps smooth and secure. Different hair = different approach.
