Raw Hair vs Virgin Hair: What’s the Real Difference?

Raw Hair vs Virgin Hair: What’s the Real Difference?

One of the biggest questions in the hair extension industry is the difference between raw hair and virgin hair.

Raw hair comes directly from a single human donor. The hair is cut from the head and kept in its natural state, with the cuticles intact and aligned in one direction.

This is what we call a live cuticle.

Because the cuticles all flow in the same direction, raw hair naturally:

• prevents tangling
• maintains smoothness
• improves with proper care

Virgin hair, on the other hand, is typically gathered from multiple donors. Because of this, the natural cuticles are not aligned in the same direction.

To correct this, the hair is processed and coated with what is known as a faux cuticle.

This coating helps the hair behave smoothly—but it is not the original natural cuticle.

Understanding this difference is key when choosing the right hair for your needs.
