The Top 5 Fastest Hair Extension Installs (From 5 Minutes to 1 Hour)

Not every client has four hours to sit in your chair. Some have an event tonight. Some want to try extensions before they commit. Some just want to look amazing without spending a lot of money or time. For those clients, speed is the whole point, and knowing the fastest hair extension installs lets you say yes to them.

I have been a licensed stylist for over 21 years, and I have timed just about every method there is. Here are my top five fastest hair extension installs: clip-ins, beaded single rows, net wefts, the big braid traditional sew-in, and partial bond installs. I will also cover the ready-to-wear options that are just as quick: halos, ponytails, volumizers, U-part wigs, and glueless wigs.

PART ONE: Why Fast Installs Matter

Fast installs are not the "lesser" version of extensions. They serve real clients with real needs:

  • Clients on a budget. Less time in the chair usually means a lower price.
  • Clients who are new to extensions. A quick, low-commitment option lets them try it first.
  • Clients with events. Weddings, photoshoots, birthdays, and vacations.
  • Stylists with full books. Fast services fit between longer appointments.

"When a client tells me she wants something fast and she does not want to spend a lot of money, I already know what I am going to offer her."

PART TWO: The Top 5 Fastest Installs

#1: Clip-Ins (about 5 minutes)

Clip-ins are the fastest install ever. I can literally put a set of clip-ins in about five minutes, and it looks so natural, so effortless, and so beautiful. The client can even learn to do it herself at home. No glue, no heat, no beads, no thread. When they are colored and blended properly, nobody knows.

#2: Beaded Single Rows (fast and inexpensive)

This is not the invisible bead method. With beaded single rows, the weft is sandwiched right in the middle of the natural hair. You take a small section of hair from over the top of the weft and a section from underneath, slide the bead on so it holds both sections with the weft in between, and clamp it. Row by row, bead by bead, it goes fast.

It is a super fast method and it is inexpensive, so it is popular with clients who want something quick and do not want to pay a lot. When someone says, "I want to get something done that is really inexpensive," this is the method I offer.

#3: Net Wefts (5 to 10 minutes per row)

With net wefts, the prep is what takes the time. Once the prep is done, installing it on your client's head goes quickly. You can get done in about five to ten minutes per row. Do the prep work ahead of time and the appointment itself is short.

#4: The Big Braid Traditional Sew-In (about 1 hour)

A big braid sew-in uses fewer, larger braids as the foundation. With two bundles of hair, you can have that done in about one hour, not counting styling. It is a classic for a reason: fast, full, and affordable.

#5: Partial Bond Installs (1 to 2 rows)

Bonds like I-tips, K-tips, U-tips, and V-tips are usually known as a long, detailed install. But if you are only doing one or two rows for volume or a little length, they can actually be done fairly quickly. It is a fast way to give a client the most natural look without a full-head appointment.

PART THREE: The Ready-to-Wear Speed Options

Beyond the top five, there is a whole category of pieces that go on in minutes:

  • Halos: A single piece on a clear wire that sits on the head. One of the very fastest methods out there.
  • Ponytails: Wrap or clip on for instant length and fullness.
  • Volumizers: Clip-in pieces that add density exactly where it is needed.
  • U-part wigs: Very fast installs that blend with the client's own leave-out.
  • Glueless wigs: Very fast installs with no adhesive.
  • Quick weave: The old-school method many stylists still use for a fast full look.

Anything you can clip in quickly is always going to be among the fastest methods.

SIDE BY SIDE: Install Time at a Glance

Method Approximate Install Time Best For
Clip-ins About 5 minutes Events, first-timers, daily wear at home
Beaded single rows Fast, row by row Budget-friendly, no glue or heat
Net wefts 5-10 minutes per row (after prep) Quick appointments with prep done ahead
Big braid sew-in About 1 hour with 2 bundles Full, affordable, classic look
Partial bonds Fairly quick for 1-2 rows Natural volume without a full install

Times reflect my own experience and do not include styling. Your times will depend on your experience and the client's hair.

What to Expect From a Fast Install

Factor What It Looks Like
Chair time Minutes to about an hour
Price Usually lower than long, detailed installs
Commitment Low: many options are removable or short-term

BOTTOM LINE

The fastest hair extension installs are clip-ins, beaded single rows, net wefts, the big braid sew-in, and partial bonds, with halos, ponytails, volumizers, U-part wigs, glueless wigs, and quick weaves right there with them. Fast does not mean low quality. With good hair and good blending, a five-minute clip-in can look just as natural as a five-hour install.
