Every Lace Piece You Can Use in a Mesh Install: 2x6 to 360

One of the best things about mesh installs is how many lace pieces you can choose from. You can integrate a 2x6 closure, a 4x4, a 5x5, a 6x6, a 7x7, a 13x6 or 13x7 lace frontal, or a 360 lace piece. Each one covers a different area and gives the client different parting options.

In this guide, I will break down every lace piece you can use in a mesh install and when to choose each one.

PART ONE: How Lace Sizes Work

Lace pieces are measured in inches. The first number is the width across the head, and the second is the depth from front to back. A 4x4 closure is about four inches across and four inches deep. A 13x6 frontal stretches about 13 inches from ear to ear and six inches back.

The bigger the lace area, the more parting freedom and the more scalp-like coverage the client gets. It also means more lace to care for.

PART TWO: The Lace Pieces

2x6 closure

A narrow, deep piece. Perfect for a natural middle part or a deep part with minimal lace.

4x4 closure

The classic. Enough room for a middle part and a little movement to either side.

5x5 closure

A bit more room for side parts and more natural-looking scalp area.

6x6 closure

Even more parting freedom and more coverage for clients thinning at the top.

7x7 closure

The largest closure. Very wide parting options and broad coverage across the top of the head.

13x6 and 13x7 lace frontals

Ear-to-ear coverage along the hairline. Frontals let clients pull the hair back, wear it off the face, and part it almost anywhere across the front.

360 lace

Lace all the way around the perimeter of the head. The most versatile option for updos and high ponytails.

"Every lace piece gives the client a different set of options. Choose the piece based on how she wants to part and wear her hair."

PART THREE: Shades, Textures, and Custom Color

In our collection, lace pieces come in multiple shades and multiple textures, and all of them can be custom colored. That means you can match the client's natural texture and color, or create a completely custom look. You can get very creative with these pieces and place them in several areas of the head.

SIDE BY SIDE: Lace Pieces Compared

Piece Coverage Parting Options Best For
2x6 Narrow, deep Middle or single deep part Minimal lace, natural part
4x4 Small square Middle and slight side Classic closure sew-ins
5x5 Medium square Middle and side More flexibility
6x6 Large square Wide range Top thinning, more freedom
7x7 Largest closure Widest closure range Broad top coverage
13x6 / 13x7 Ear to ear Almost anywhere across the front Hairline, pulled-back styles
360 Full perimeter All around Updos and ponytails

What to Expect by Size

Bigger Lace Means Smaller Lace Means
More parting freedom Less lace to care for
More scalp-like area Simpler install
More care required Fewer styling options

BOTTOM LINE

From a 2x6 closure to a 360, every lace piece gives a mesh install a different look, coverage area, and set of parting options. Choose based on how the client wants to wear her hair, and match or custom color the piece for a seamless result.
