The real question isn't whether your bundles shed at all — it's whether they're shedding more than they should.
PART ONE: Why All Real Human Hair Sheds Some
Hand-tied and machine wefts are both made by feeding or tying hair into a weft base at the factory of origin — machine wefts are fed through a machine, hand-tied wefts are tied strand by strand by artisans. Both processes involve handling hair at the root, and that natural process means a small amount of shedding is unavoidable, even from a high-quality, authentic factory.
This is actually one of the clearest ways to spot a red flag: if a company claims their hair never sheds, be skeptical. I can tell you from two decades of sourcing that 100% authentic human hair will shed a little. A supplier promising zero shedding is usually either overselling synthetic-blended hair or simply not being straight with you.

- Poor weft construction — loosely sewn or low-quality machine wefts release strands more easily over time
- Improperly sorted hair — cuticles running in mixed directions weaken the bond at the weft line and cause tangling that pulls hair loose
- Brushing against the cuticle direction — hair cuticle naturally flows one direction, from the weft down to the ends; brushing against that flow roughs up the cuticle and increases shedding and tangling
- Clarifying shampoos or scrubbing motions — these are too harsh for wefted hair and break down the weft seal over time
- Product buildup — heavy products can weaken the weft seal, especially on machine-sewn wefts
