Wig Cap Construction: What You Need to Know About Closure Types

WIG CAP CONSTRUCTION: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CLOSURE TYPES

The wig cap is the foundation. It determines durability, comfort, and how the wig wears. Understanding cap construction helps you choose the right wig.

PART ONE: MAIN CAP TYPES

Lace Cap (Full Lace, Front Lace, 360 Lace, Partial Lace)

We've covered these extensively. Lace provides an invisible hairline but requires glue and careful handling.

Silk Base Cap

A silk or silk-like material covers the area where the lace would be. More durable than lace, less invisible but still very natural-looking.

Cotton Cap

Cotton material base. Breathable, durable, comfortable. Less realistic-looking hairline than lace or silk, but more durability.

HD Lace vs. Regular Lace

We've covered this. HD lace is ultra-transparent; regular lace is thicker.

PART TWO: CLOSURE TYPES AT THE BACK

Adjustable Strap Closure

Velcro or snap straps at the back that tighten for a snug fit. Standard on most wigs. Easy to adjust.

Elastic Band Closure

An elastic band that stretches to fit your head. Less adjustable than straps but still comfortable.

Wig Gripping Band

A silicone or rubber band inside the cap that grips your hair and scalp. Helps prevent the wig from shifting.

Lace Back Closure

Lace at the back rather than straps. Gives a fully natural appearance but less adjustability.

PART THREE: CHOOSING YOUR CAP TYPE

Cap Type Realism Durability Cost Best For
Full Lace Excellent Good High Maximum styling freedom
360 Lace Excellent Very Good Medium-High Versatile styling
Front Lace Excellent Very Good Medium Down hairstyles
Silk Base Very Good Excellent Medium Durability + appearance
Cotton Cap Good Excellent Low Budget + protection

BOTTOM LINE

Cap construction determines your wig's look, feel, and durability. Match the cap type to your needs and budget.
