The 2x6 Closure Mesh Install: A Deep, Natural Part With Minimal Lace
The 2x6 closure is one of my favorite lace pieces for clients who want a clean, natural part without a lot of lace to maintain. It is about two inches wide and six inches deep, which makes it perfect for a long, realistic part line.
In this guide, I will explain when to use a 2x6 in a mesh install, how to place it, and who it works best for.
PART ONE: What a 2x6 Closure Is
A 2x6 closure is a narrow strip of lace with hair ventilated into it. Because it is deep instead of wide, it gives the client a long part that looks like it is growing right out of the scalp.
Why stylists love the 2x6
- A realistic deep part
- Minimal lace to care for
- Easy to hide the edges in the surrounding hair
- Works on its own or with other methods
PART TWO: When to Use a 2x6
- The client always wears a middle part or one specific deep part
- She wants the most natural part possible with the least lace
- She is thinning along her part line
- You are building a sew-in or integration and only need a part area
When to choose something bigger
If the client likes to switch her part from side to side, a 4x4, 5x5, or larger closure will give her more options.
"A 2x6 gives you a long, believable part with the least amount of lace. For a client who wears one part every day, it is perfect."
PART THREE: Installing a 2x6
Create the base
With a traditional sew-in, the base is braided. For a mesh integration on its own, the natural hair is pulled through micro beads to create a flat base.
Place the closure
Line the 2x6 up with where the client parts her hair. Placement is decided during the consultation.
Sew it down
Sew the lace securely onto the base without pulling or stretching it.
Blend
Blend the edges into the surrounding hair or wefts and style.
SIDE BY SIDE: 2x6 vs 4x4 Closure
| Factor | 2x6 | 4x4 |
|---|---|---|
| Shape | Narrow, deep | Square |
| Part style | One long part | Middle with slight side |
| Lace to care for | Less | More |
| Flexibility | Lower | Higher |
What to Expect From a 2x6 Mesh Install
| Factor | What It Looks Like |
|---|---|
| Look | A deep, natural part |
| Wear time | 4 weeks up to 6 months, depending on the stylist and maintenance |
| Care | Gentle handling of the lace |
BOTTOM LINE
The 2x6 closure gives a deep, natural part with minimal lace. It is perfect for clients who wear one part every day or are thinning along their part line, whether it is installed on its own or with a sew-in.
